VAV Gallery

Playing with form and typography in exhibition posters.

OVERVIEWVAV (Visual Arts Visuels) Gallery is an exhibition space at Concordia University, dedicated to showcasing the artistic experimentation of fine arts students. As the gallery’s graphic designer, I created the posters for each monthly exhibition.

PROBLEM
The gallery sought a visual language grounded in strong typography, clean lines, and geometric forms, needing designs that could remain adaptable while representing artists across a wide range of practices and levels of experience.

APPROACHI developed a simple, repeatable poster framework that kept the VAV logo consistent, while leaving space for typographic exploration and bold graphic variation.

Trading off strict compositions for a looser template meant that each exhibition was able to truly be distinct and bring exciting novelty to each new poster.

OUTCOMEThe result was a system that balanced continuity and flexibility, allowing the gallery to maintain a recognizable presence while treating each exhibition as a unique moment within a larger program.
